Dear Mark,
Greenwich
Hospital purchased Miura Boilers in April 1996, and they
were installed and put in operation in March of 1998.
Our
original plan was to install a conventional firetube boiler
system for our replacement hospitals new power plant.
When we first heard of the Miura design-and their claims-
we were skeptical. Not so, any more. The boilers run as
advertised and more.
The
Miura boiler design is compact. Our original firetube boiler
room was sized for two 600 HP boilers and one 250 HP boiler
for summer loads-with provisions for one additional 600
HP boiler for the future. Instead we bought seven 200 HP
boilers, which use less space than the original proposal
and provide for multiple back-up. The total boiler room
package ended us saving us money over the proposed firetube
system, as we needed much less space.
The
Miura boiler is flexible and efficient. We end up using
only two or three units on the average at full fire. We
get 85% fuel to steam efficiency; we can get full steam
production form a cold start within five minutes. When we
dont need steam, the Miura multiple installation controller
shuts the redundant boilers down, eliminating boiler cycling-for
substantial fuel savings.
The
Miura Boiler Concept has certainly been a welcome addition
to the New Greenwich Hospital
we are pleased to be
experiencing the Concepts many benefits over conventional
firetube systems.
Sincerely,
Stephen
